Not me. Heard there is still a lot of driver issues. Also heard vista is just a pretty looking XP with more bugs!

I am =) and I like it.. quite a lot of improvements on the UI side. Not only the eye-candy -oh sweet heavens, it actually looks good!-, but it feels more responsive. And you can search from the same window easily. I mean, really search even inside the documents.. :)
plus the side-bar and clickable folders on the address bar - I mean if you have folder on c:\documents\user\desktop\whatever\here\is open you can just click "user" on the address bar and be taken back to there. Also usable are the tags and such things for the pictures and so on. I find it quite funny btw.. the installation and booting up both are faster than on xp (might be just my subjective thinking though). But I have to admit it has some driver issues (my tv-card for example), but most of XP's drivers do work. Even my sata-raid card's drivers that were done for XP actually _WORK_ on Vista :) It might still have bugs left though. And yes it has crashed on me. But it still somehow manages to create impression of being more stable than windows xp. -------------------- This person is best talked to with the help of a computer..

Hey I was wonderin if you guys can tell me if I should be able to run Vista... I got 2gigs of ram, and an AMD Athlon 64 3500+
I heard some talk of needing a Dual Core processor or something, is that like Intel talk? cause I don't know what a dual core processor is... I would guess something having to do with 2 cores >_> but can I run it good on my 3500+? -------------------- |

Yeah I was for about 3 hours.
Until I realized I could not find my tv tuner card drivers anywhere on the internet for vista, no tv tuner card, no pay means no vista. -------------------- Formerly M0RPhEuS ..for some reason. Things we do when younger.

I think the biggest requirement is having a good video card with lots of memory for the eye candy. Your 2 gigs of ram should do fine. But again, I haven't used it yet. :)

I would recommend to having at least 1gig of ram. I have athlon 2700+ and it's running fine.. think it was good also on my 1700+ so that should give some cover to that part.
btw, I also have the driver with tv-tuner. Also had trouble with Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 (old model so that affects it as well). Apart from those two I havent had problems, and I actually think I should be able to install the drivers for my tv-tuner from the XP ones. Might have to do some tricks to make media center to accept it thought. Haven't really been trying to solve that due to time reasons (fiancée takes a lot of time, no real surprise there I guess). -------------------- This person is best talked to with the help of a computer..

Thought it was rather funny the first SP was announced for release even before the OS went Gold.
XP will be my last M$ OS - I'm already playing around with Linux and FreeBSD - and I plan on buying a new Macbook Pro sometime this year. |

I'm using it, Home Premium.
I just bought myself a new pc (C2D E6400, 8800GTX, 2GB ram) and I wanted to give it a whirl. So far its been as good as I've expected. I've had 3 BSOD, but I think they could be related to my video drivers, as the nVidad drivers are still beta. The other reason I wanted to get it is because I'm a dev and I'm interested to see what Vista can/ can't do in terms of deving. Personally I think VS2005 looks fucking fantastic in Vista, it doesn't look like an app that was built for XP, it looks home in Vista. I like gadgets, at lot of people wont, but I always used Samurize in the past, gadgets just mean I don't have to rely on a 3rd party software and I'm wanting to get cracking with making my own ones ;) Gaming has been fine, turns out PunkBuster doesn't play well with Vista, it insists that you run the game as administrator so PunkBuster can get full OS access and be sure you're not cheating. Ironic you have to give it complete access to be sure you're not cheating... All in all I'm loving it and would like to use it at work, but I don't think we're going to move to it for some time :( -------------------- bash-2.05$ cd /pub

at this point I have to get back to this topic as I actually found pure vista support from the tv-tuner's site :) so it works pretty well now

A cousin bought a computer with Vista with it, and so far what I've seen is XP with more eye-candy, and the dreaded screen that asks for your permission for everything.

I assume you mean UAP ? if you really hate that one you can turn it off, or into just yes/no box of sort.. Altho I have to admit I do not remember where that one was is as I can live with it :) As far as I am concerned, it is a necessary evil of sort. Basically it prevent spyware and viruses installing themselves. Of course most old games still require full access... unfortunately. But most programs run pretty happily in the limited user mode - where they belong to. I'm sure you are aware of the reasons behind it though.

I'm with Deepone, I keep the UAP on all the time.
I just find it ironic that peopel have bitched about how 'insecure' Windows has always been, so they release something that has nearly linux-level permissions in terms of file system access and the first thing people do is bitch that they are constantly asked for permission to install apps! -------------------- bash-2.05$ cd /pub

it's a problem that they just don't really want to exert any force to learn new stuff in a way I believe - they have gotten extremely confortable with not being asked for anything and not having to care of the security side. It is the same thing as with airports these days: we have gotten used to not having to go thru all the heavy security measures and limitations of what we can bring into the airplane.. and now that they have added more checks and limitations.. uh, I don't like them either.
What I would like is for them to invent something totally new. One possibility is that there would be very simple and fast way to go back to previous situation. But the problem then again is that the users don't know immediately that something has gone awkward.. but maybe you follow my line of thoughts what I'm after: to get rid of checks so that we can use the computers (or travel with airplanes) easily and without having to worry too much (yes I admit - it is propably a dream to never come true, at least on my lifetime). -------------------- This person is best talked to with the help of a computer..
