I was looking into registering my own domain, but I'm not sure who to use to register with.

I'd appreciate any advice!

Thanks

www.verio.com is who I use. They don't have it listed, but if you call them up, just say you want a domain pointer account. With that you can point it to the URL or IP address of you choosing.

Or you can even just get you domain reserved and just change your nameserver in the account. For you Boss, you can change the default nameserver to my nameserver and be able to reach your website with your domain name, without having to even going a pointer account.

I like GoDaddy. US company. Great customer service and decent prices.

GoDaddy

Planet Domain (Australian company) was a nightmare.

Many web hosts are also "resellers" of domain registrations. Learned the hard way, I avoid this route and register it myself. If you do the reseller thing, your domain and control of it can be at the mercy of the web hosting company. If the web hosting company goes under and they were a reseller of your domain, it can be especially bad news.

Also learned the hard way, you may want to solicit suggestions for web hosting too. They run the gamut from total nightmare to great value. You do not necessarily have to find the very best one. A pool of proven ones will help you avoid the nightmare ones.

M6.net = nightmare

I have been very happy with Accuwebhosting. US company. Very reliable. Good prices. Knowledgable staff. Lots of hosting options. No telephone support but an online ticket system that is responded to quickly. Being so reliable, there are very few occasions to require support. US company.

MeccaHosting was very good to me while I was learning. Patient and very knowledgable staff. Prices not that great but if you would appreciate some "hand holding" as you learn, they are a good way to go. Linux only. Australian company with a US presence.
