Outline · Standard · [ Linear+ ] I'm thinking of migrating, to Canada

Finding a job here has been a pain, so a few days ago I went to a canadian immigration information meeting. As it turns out, I qualify in all the Skilled Worker class eligibility factors (college degree, english fluency, some work experience, etc.) except one: Arranged Employment.

Can any of you, canadian nfm'ers, give me some pointers on where or how to look for a job from here? I graduated from school with a degree in Economics (my dissertation was about Currency Substitution), but they told me there is high demand for IT-savy people. All of my work experience has been in website design and implementation, sys admin, and information systems management (most of it I've learned from trial and error, and from the nice people here @ nFm), so maybe that's what I should shoot for.

Seriously, I haven't had any experience with immigration employment, so I can't be of much help. I'm sure our immigration department has some sort of system set up that will help you find employment...?

Or what you could do is look for Canadian companies on the web whom you'd like to work for, and apply over the internet, stating you're situation.

I assume that this meeting was organised by the Canadian embassy. So why don't you make an appointment with the embassy and ask the experts themselves for advice. After all if they organised this meeting they must be in need of labour.

I think they just need to see paper that you have job in canada and that employer can be anything for now. After you move there you can find another job.
So anybody who has company or can write this letter might be great help for you.
We needed such papers to imigrate to US and we aksed people in US to write them.

Where is "here" that you are talking about? I just saw an article on UPS and a big hub that they opened up in Canada just recently. The article also said UPS is "one" of the best companies to work for in the IT field in regards to benefits & pay. If you live in the U.S. you could always start work for UPS "entry position"& then ask for a transfer to the one in Canada. UPS aslo has a "earn & learn program where they pay up to $2000 a year for part time & $4000 for part time Supervisors. I know alot of College students that work at UPS so they can get the tuition money. Im sure you could get your IT degree with the money from UPS & then work for them? no?
