The last couple of weeks the computer of my son doesn't go any further than the Windows XP screen. He can get into the safe mode. I would have normally thought the puter is too light for Windows XP but it has worked very well for a long time. Any trouble-shooting suggestions?

Can you pass on any more info? Just hoping to narrow the scope.

Things like:

what the machine has on it, regarding spyware protect, and things are downloaded alot to it.

SP1/SP2

what was happening last time it worked fine.

what has been tried in Safe Mode

sorry for the grogily put together list its 3am and i am still working on school work.

also, if you enable boot-logging what does it say, and if you watch this list that it can show of stuff it loads at boot-time, what is the last driver it gets up - its too late (1am) and i'm high on drugs (heave painkiller's cuz of my hip-pains) so i cant think better than this at the moment tho..
presumed action that broke up the system might also be enlightening, but i would propably start with installing new display drivers on the safe-mode, or trying these "last working" things from the bootmenu.

I figured trouble-shooting was too much of a hassle so I formatted the computer and installed Windows again. Thanks guys.

well, essentially it was the very same i said for my lil bro to do after *I* messed up his comp - never too good idea to be too lazy to reboot while installing new drivers.. and i ended up installing some core-level stuff and also uninstalled something so... :P
in the end think just repairing it via the installation disk was okay tho, and that even kept the old settings intact. which was a surprise since for me it hasnt done that ever.. hehe :)
