Hi All,

Yea.. haven't heard back from anyone here in over a year.. I'll let it slide,. word has it that there is life outside of nforums.

I got a new 'puter:

Q6600 (nice Quad) 2.40Ghz with 2GB RAM and 250GB SATA2 16MB Buffer HD.

took me 3 days to recover all my data from my old hd that decided to die prematurely (it lasted 8 long years).

Now.. blazing fast compuer allows me to play mind sweeper ever fast.

Oh.. I'm ashamed.. but I've the most horrible thing you can think of: I purchased a real license of XP pro SP2.

Cheers.

congrats on the new comp :) with that speed, I would not use that XP directly tho, but put linux to run underneath & then run it on virtual system. saves much of trouble on reinstallation. Well, I'll know more later once I get faster net back (lost ADSL-modem on it's firmware upgrade, warranty had expired already - new one coming in from the wippies though). Pretty hard to install something from the net with GPRS-connection, lol =)
Have to confess myself too, using legal windows.. got the vista for free for beta testing it, so it was pretty cost effective solution. how does the system work ? hopefully no problems.. mine keeps crashing, thus the try for virtualization. Not the mem, came clean during weekend of testing.. propably has to do with cmedia's integrated audio :(

Well... the system pulls up fine for nearly 3 weeks, so I'm happy :)
It is very fast - boot time is barely 20 seconds which is fantastic for me as previously I would wake up,. turn the power on.. go on brushing my teeth then come back to press the 'login passwd' and go on for dressing up.. then i would finally finish loading up.
so 20 secs is nearly unbelievable.
I don't think I need to VPS thingy,. I'm comfortable with the installation, and since this works fine and it is a business computer, I don't install much of the possible trouble software outthere. No games etc (though this could probably be a fanastic game machine with very powerfull graphics).
For a monitor I had a 206BW Samsung which was great, only problem was that I'm not comfortable using the WIDE screen and it is not very effective for business work (you can't see a full A4 page without the need to scroll 3-4 times).
So I replaced it with an ASUS LS201 which is H-U-G-E and amazing in brightness, and sharpness.

I decided to spend more money now.

I just bought a Lenovo Thinkpad for $1439.81 USD.
I could have paid perhaps only $500 and get a cheap end laptop, but I'd be pissed at myself for doing this and not forking out the extra buck for the 'little' things that makes the laptop a serious beast.

T61p with T9300 (2.5Ghz) Core 2 Duo.
2GB RAM
160GB 7200RPM.
Fingerprint, Bluetooth, Wifi, DVD Recorder, 9cell battery, 3 years warranty.XP pro.
14 inch, not wide-screen.
I hate the wide screen, can't get used to it, plus it is not practical for working environment, where my documents are Portrait and not landscape.

The primary computer will be used by my assistant.
