Many people find video files dont play on their computers like they hoped or indeed at all... this is normally because you havent installed the correct codec for the video to playback with or sometimes you need the codec to hear the audio.

two tools for identifying which codecs you need are Gspot and AVIcodec. I've provided links to these below:

Gspot:

AVIcodecL:
http://avicodec.duby.info/

these are great tools to have installed if you work with lots of video or happen to be sent lots of *amusing* attachments by friends over email.

I would also recomend quick time alternative
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4100.html

it lets you play quick time movies in WMP.

the only drawback it wont play reference quick time movies exported from NLE software which for most people its not a problem.
