And here I was thinking I was pretty clear with AdAware and SpyBot S&D .... Time to give Spysweeper a trial methinks

Read page 9 of that review. I run spybot and adaware and clean things up fairly well right now. When I deal with people, they do not want to pay for software that does not do magical fairy things. I still keep the spybot and lavasoft on hand and would only use spysweeper if necessary. Does anyone have any use of spysweeper that can tell me that it actually DOES do a better job than both adaware and spybot or that it would be worth 30 bucks a pop for me to recommend it to people to install? Thanks.

SpySweeper is a great tool. I always run it after running Ad-aware and SpyBot. It still finds several infections and cleans them.

Only problem with Spysweeper is that it reports a lot of 'false positives'.

Give them their due though; they acknowledge that it sometimes does this and they do fix these things when they are reported to them. Apart from this, it's not too bad a program.

I'll stick with Adaware and SpyBot. They are both in my price range (free).

SpySweeper reports Backweb as possible spyware. They warn you that Backweb has a lot of legitimate uses (include F-Secure Antivirus). Just a note to be careful about removing Backweb when using SpySweeper.

Spysweeper was able to remove things none of the others were able to. I give spysweeper an A+. Not that I wouldnt use the other apps, or that they were inferior, its just that spysweeper was more thourough.

Thanks for the insightful article, Weiner3. Like most folks, I have felt pretty secure with SpyBot and AdAware (although I use the 'Pro' versions of both). In an attempt to be security-concious, I also use PestPatrol, but it is apparent that the judicious use of SpySweeper is in order.

Thanks, too, for the trusted comments and insights from nFm members ....
