nForums.net _ Public News _ B-52 Scale Model Has Flown

Posted by: captbics May 29 2004, 05:01 PM

I don't know how many of you like this sort of thing, but someone has built a 300lb scale model of a B-52 (aka known affectionately as a BUF -- Big Ugly F***er) including miniature jet engines (8 of them) from a British company -- pretty cool attention to detail!

There are 4 videos at this mirror location (the "Takeoff" video shows people in the shot next to the model for the relative size):

All 4 videos total are about 7.3MB. (The original video site was hammered into submission.)

There's more on the engines at this site:

There's also a story over at slashdot.org on this:

I'd love to see one of these models flying low-level down the street...

That is pretty wild, as I was stationed at a B-52 Nuke base many years ago! It sounds even a lil' like the ole buf! Not as much exhaust though!!!

That's pretty awesome. I've been into stuff like that for years (not physically, I haven't had the time... but I like to just browse the web looking for such things). It's amazing that they constructed it with such similarity to the real thing and it still flies great.

Two thumbs up to these guys. smile.gif
