Alright. I recently reformatted my PC, upgrading from WinXP Home to Pro. Everything was going fine until i got online. I opened Windows Messenger, downloaded the upgrade to it, and reset.

I rebooted and opened IE (To download firefox) and it was fine for a little while... then it slowly decellerated. My internet went from downloading at around 100kbps to around four - and this isnt just my firefox download. this is IE in general, and all internet applications going so slow its intolerable - except my retarted Connection saying im still connected at 10 mpbs....

So, any idea whats goin on? I can get the same setup to work online under linux (in my slaved hard drive in the same box).

Im predicting i have a virus somewhere. This is accented by the fact i have a mysterious "xerox" folder in Program Files. If it is indeed a virus could someone point me at a free small virus scan?

Il also be running ad-aware, burned over from linux.

Don't talk dirty please

Edit (By pikaporeon) - Where was i talking dirty? Oh, its been working since ive been using M$es firewall and SpySweeper....

A British company is developing small computer chips that can store music
in women's breasts.

This is considered a major breakthrough since women complain about men
staring at their breasts and not listening to them.

For the "xerox" folder, don't worry about it. I have the same thing and I'm pretty sure everyone else with XP pro does, as well. I used to know what it was for, but, I can't remember anymore.

For the anti-virus, AntiVir is a nice free anti-virus program that has almost worked wonders for me.

Sirius is right - that xerox folder is in any WinXP Pro Program Files folder. There's nothing in mine, but it's there.

As for a free virus scan you don't have to download - since your downlaod speeds are cripled - try this one from Trend: http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ it's on-line and always up-to-date.

The Xerox folder is for the WIA (Windows Image Aquisition) it's the next version of twain, which is a scanner driver thing. Don't worry about it, just leave it be...
