ok, im running IE 6, and only recently for no apparent reason, it has stopped loading new windows. It just sits there blank, apparently loading, but getting nowhere. Mostly this occurs with java pop-ups, just as the 'My Assistant' we have here on the forums, but also it has started happening when i Ctrl-N to open a new window, etc etc etc.

Anyone know what is going on?

hmm.

i dont seem to have any of that,.... i have firefox and IE and use both.

does it make you reload the "non existent" page before it displays?

I know the only problem i have is that if i, for instance, go to send an email froma webbased one, and it has a popup window for the address book, in the new window i have to relogin, then go back to the original page and type click the adress book link again.

it is weird.

PS. makes any difference, i used the autopatcher XP feb 04 FULL after i installed xp.

I know that Autopatcher can add a whole bunch of restricted sites in IE .. Is a firewall involved? Something interferring with Port 80?

yes, but only if it is a new window. Most JS pop-ups are chromless, and so i just cant view them in IE as they do not offer a refresh option until after they load.

nope, and i dont think it is even related to my firewall. i can browse sites and their pop-ups fine, and load everything in Opera, but IE will not load JS pop-ups.

ok guys, for example, underneath the 'fast reply' box is a link called 'show smilies pop up window'.

if i click that, the window pops up, but all i get is white, and my cursor is the funky hourglass for loading. but thats it. no matter how long i leave it, it will not load.

if i attempt the same in Opera, it all works fine. So, im guessing the problem is to do with IE as an application, more than likely specific to a JS plugin, but i cant work out what or where to look... :(

Hi
I found this little trick if nothing else helps.

launch regedit and go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}

In the right-hand window double click on the Isinstalled DWORD value and change it to 0

close regedit

then go to windows update and it should update IE and hopefully fix your problem

BTW you can fix Outlook express too with same trick

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}

good luck
