Thanks FW, nice link.

I have to say, this does look good. I'm waiting for the final before trying it out myself.

2 questions arise though:

i) Will it do what M$ says it will? and, more importantly...

ii) Will it help the less tech savvy people out there keep their PCs and, therefore, the Net safer. Fewer virus infected, more secure Home PCs means less shit flying about the Net. ph34r.gif

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Looks promising but as Bearsland said "Guess we'll just have to wait and see."

Nice screenies. However, I think it's rather a futile effort to increase security. Sure, security will be increased for about a week or two by closing a bunch of holes and whatnot. But, by doing so, M$ innevitably opens new holes that just wait to be discovered by the ever-wary security prober. And... virus protection? Provided by M$? I just can't see that working out as intended.

Forigve me, but I just plain don't trust Microsoft. huh.gif

Looks nice. I like the wireless features that they are adding but whats up with removing the "Add Hardware"??

I saw a place to download it, but i am not going to get it, there are a lot more downsides to it then plus at the moment.

Here are someof the features of SP2

*Messenger Service is now off by default. As it was most commonly know for allowing "UNIVERSITY DIPLOMA" pop-up spam
*A more Powerful and configurable Firewall. It is now more interactive and asks to permit or deny questions about unauthorized network connections. It is also active from boot-up as SP1 starts at Windows, leaving a Gap in Protection.
*An Improvded Internet Explorer. Built-in pop-up blocker, manage add-ons area for examingin third party code modules that try to integrate themselves with your browser. Spyware modules can be disabled, and such modules will have a more difficult time integrating with your browser without yout knowledge or permission. Greatly improved error troubleshooting(for those who actually send in the errors)
*Simpler and more convenient Wi-Fi access. New look, which is more streamlined. Adds pre-configured hotspot profiles to make loggin into national services like T-Mobile easier. Automatic Connection feature allows fast easy connection to preferred networks whenever they are in range. Bluetooth works better for simple connectins like Keyboard, Mice, and PDA links. Less External software to activate.
*Local Content Zone Lockouts. IE will be more cautious about the permissions it gives out to "HTML" files considered part of the "local content" zone. Active X and similar functions disabled by default, for local files, making it harder to obtain and execute weeb trojans.
*Numerous Internal Changes. Main changes help balance the 32bit/64bit application mix and driver mixes. Called Execution Protection.

Nice to see.
Thanks.

SP2 can kill all bugs of SP1?
I don't think M$ guys can do.
Orkin offers better bug control services.
Hmm... curious...

I tried it on my laptop:

after installing you can't get windows update anymore.
wireless settings are easier at first but then if you need to configure it will bring you good old screen off all those options you had on xp sp1
It hase pop up blocker but i have it too smile.gif
It won't let you open web page from your hd saying it might be dangerous so you need to adjust settings to let you work on it.I think links where blocked or something.
Security wont recognize my antivirus even i have it on PC.It states no antivirus software found in the security panell window.
Adds a security icon on task bar.Like i have not enough icons already.

installed it on my computer at work (what faith in M$) and it work beautifully. I had to re-configure a lot of the firewall settings to get my FTP to work as well as MSN messenger, But otherwise it is working great .. also, I used to have a "glitch" with my Matrox RTx100 where it would blue screen occassionally, that hasn't happened in two days smile.gif
