http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/07/14/news_6102542.htmlThere you have it. August 3rd, people!Woot! Finally! So many long years of waiting for this gem is finally being paid off. I think I'll go out and preorder my copy tomorrow. This is just going to be too big of a hit to miss. Looks like it's time for some good, old-fashioned demon slaying action. Except, this time, the demons are more than 2d sprites running around in DOS.

Pricing on Doom 3 is a bit odd though. $55... Most games are either $50 or $40 these days (and I really have never seen a $55 PC game... even back in the $60 age).

Rofl. People are talking about this nearly everywhere on the internet. iD certainly has hit the jackpot with this one (like we didn't already know that, lol). I just hope my system can run this sucker at full blast (it damn well better).

To tell you the truth im awaiting more on HL2 when the fuck that ever comes out.
Doom 3 has a very high system required specs and I dont plan on updateing just to play it..
Sure it would be cool I just cbf forking out 300 for a video card to play it decently.

Here's the minimum system specs required to run this beast (released earlier today):
http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/07/20/news_6103036.htmlSome damn high requirements indeed. No system exists (supposedly anyways) that is going to be able to run Doom 3 on it's Ultra Quality (highest) setting. Even my system is made to look a bit sub-par compared to iD's "recommended" system.
Mine being:
AMD Athlon 2500+
512 MB RAM
Radeon 9700 Pro
I'm scared. I suppose a bit more RAM and maybe a bit of CPU overclocking can't hurt me. Lol.

Some Doom 3 Benchmarks Courtesy of HardOCP.Pretty much a useless benchmark unless you're a lucky owner of a GeForce 6800 or X800 Pro (or SOON-to-be owner of X800 XT PE in all of it's ridiculously-long-name glory).
Last benchmark is a bit more useful to me though. Radeon 9800 isn't too bad and my 9700 isn't too far behind. However, another fault in these benchmarks is that their systems themselves are also ridiculously overpowered compared to those of most gamers (they have 3.6 GHz P4's and
4 GB of
DDR2 RAM, lol). I suppose we'll just have to see for ourselves how it will run on our own hardware,

As of this afternoon we were playing DOOM 3 on a 1.5GHz Pentium 4 box with a GeForce 4 MX440 video card and having a surprisingly good gaming experience. Even a subtle jump to an AMD 2500+ with a GeForce 3 video card that is two years old will deliver a solid gaming experience that will let you enjoy the game the way id Software designed it to be |
Maybe all hope is not lost. It's too bad they didn't give us some benchmarks from those rigs though.

Lol. Awesome stuff. My machine is running this baby pretty well at 1024x768 Med Quality No AA. I'm messing around with High Quality\Lower Resolutions\Maybe Some AA... Either way, don't be nervous. Even at low\medium quality this game looks pretty freakin awesome. At low quality, some textures here and there are sort of blurry or jagged but you'll really only notice if you are walking around looking for such things (even medium has some blurry textures here and there... I've even noticed some questionable textures on the High setting).
Now... to just biuld a rig that can run at 1280x1024, Ultra High Quality, 16x AA, and 16x Aniso.

4 player max multiplayer what a joke |
I actually just played in a 16-person server (and it ran surprisingly smooth). The player limit is easily changed to whatever you want it to be through a console command. The fact is, it just takes some massive serverside bandwidth to go over the basic 4-man "limit."
Another cool thing. A co-op mod is already in the works. Supposedly, they already have it working somewhat but they have quite a bit of debugging to do (crashes in cutscenes, new players spawning causes massive lag, PDA is unusable, etc. etc.). Here's some footage:
Spoiler Alert! The first video contains footage of the final boss. (I, for one, didn't watch the first one so I can't be positive about whether or not it shows the final boss or not... but don't say I didn't warn you)
I do indeed have one gripe about this game though. I really wish you could carry the flashlight and a weapon at the same time. I don't see why he can't carry at least the pistol with it. It just takes too damn long to switch between the useless flashlight and any other weapon.

Well...I've been playing this 'thing' for two days now and I must say I expected more. Either I'm lossing my appetite for gaming, or this game's a dog. I hope HL2 lives up to it's expectations - this one hasn't as of yet.

Aug 5 2004, 03:23 AM
Well I got into gaming via doom 1..so I bought doom 3..
IMHO, people shouldn't pirate this game..but that wont ever happen. If you like doom, you'll like this. Play it at night, no background stuff to keep you occupied, closed off area and you will be lying if you dont jump in your seat etc.
The flashlight adds suspense. If your playing no cheats etc, it adds alot to the atmosphere and when those Imps get in your face you get really scared and alot of adrenaline pumps when you want the weapon to come up. You just have to be smart to know when to use the flashlight versus your hearing.
The game has exceeded my expectations. I thought it would kind of be just a run and gun, but I am freaked out. There is a voice that tells you in one part of the game it goes..
"Over here, Follow me..." You head down a corridor, then your vision goes red and the voice says.. "They've taken my baby..."
That's wrong to me..
But hey I am a sucker for scary things..it's just a matter if you get scared or like the thrill. Some parts are really dull and just kind of like..damn i'm shootin these zombies etc and then the 90% of the other time it's more like "Holy sh** two of those things just came through the vents..where'd they go?"
If you aren't playing it like it's meant to be played(night time, dark all by yourself), you aren't experiencing it.
This is my opinions...I can be just assuming and can be wrong.
As always

so far the game hasn't been anything that'd really grab my attention. I'm not really a FPS fan, more of a strats man, but I thought i'd give this a go.
I must admit I like the 'scary' factor of it. I've been playing it late at night (when everyone's gone to bed, lights out and all so the only light is coming from my screen and it is rather.... freaky.
I just find that its rather frustrating at the limited amount of ammo around, I always seem to be stuck with my pistol and cuz my shotty and chain gun are out of ammo

Anyone know about the combonation locks you see around? Any clues to what the combos are?

All combinations can be found via other peoples's PDAs (whether it be an e-mail or audio log). The exception are the Martian Buddy closets which require you to quit the game and go to martianbuddy.com to get the code from the bottom of the page (trust me, it's worth it).
And yeah, this game is pretty freaky when played in complete darkness. It really adds to the experience. I've gone through quite a few shocking momentes (I hate when you hear stuff growling at you and you can't see it... resulting in you frantically making 360 degree turns and shooting at stuff that isn't there, lol). My freakiest moment so far was actually in the bathroom (after all hell breaks loose and you start backtracking). I wanted to go see myself in the mirror so I walked up really close to it. My sound was pretty loud so the ensuing cutscene-thing scared the hell out of me. Lol.
I suddenly have the urge to go find my floppy version of Doom 1 and play some levels....

Well I just finished the area where you get the plasma rifle, the team etc....
I think the coolest part is where you see this guy and he gets mauled right under the exit he helps you find..I am like ohh my god. That was cool.
But the freakiest is the woman..you'll see her if you haven't.
I think you guys are taking it slow going to all the lockers etc. I've been fine with ammo. I just guess I shoot where it counts. I can understand if you dont play FPS.. that might be your ammo problem

Well I bought it the other day bros.
I was a little skeptical of it being able to running on my Alienware intel 1.8Ghz, 512 ddr-ram, G-force Ti 500 gfx-card. Its a few years old now buts been serving me well since i got it, back to the point though
I started it at the lostest setting it took it like a champ then i got a bit greedy went up to full blast and i was surprized that is was running pretty good at 20-30fps! with minor skipping and choppy-ness lol. well I beat the game in about 2 days and i was pleased with every minute of it except when i got stuck in a few parts and then got what i was suppost to do and hitting my self in the head later thinking why i didn't notice that the firsttime lol. Well if ya haven't gottten to the last boss, lets jsut say he is a dooooozy :-p
*Is now waiting for the MODS to roll on out :-p *
Edit: I forgot to say that the game scared the crap outa me playing with headphones on and at 12 o'clock at night :-p
and I also found that the mirros in the bathrooms were quite fun to mess around with lol seeing myself for the first time in a game lol :-p
