I'm looking into buying a new router with build in modem. It has to have an advanced Firewall configuration and has to be UPnP enabled.

I took a look at the SMC7204BRA from SMC (duh) that's exactly what I want when it comes to firewall configuration, but it's not UPnP enabled.

Anyone know of something similair to the SMC7204BRA which is UPnP enabled.

Thanks peeps!

How much are you looking to spend?

I will have a look whats out there for u.

One way of getting your perfect router though is to knock together a pc from old parts you have lying around installing a basic linux install on it and then customizing it. Currently doing that on my setup at home and it works great, but is a bit of a hassel, although the final product will be a very powerfull little box.

Something around $100 is kewl, but if it's a good one, I am willing to spend some more.

The whole family is depending on the router, so I don't have the luxury of time...

i am not a fan of SMC at the moment.. cuase it does not like running second to my linksys.. and my wireless cuts in and out with it.. but then again.. it was 80$cdn with a rebate bringing it to like 14$.

what does the router have to do.. i mean.. you want uPnP and advanced firewall what else?

My phone company changed my dsl modem, which turned out to have router/firewall capabilities. Can say much about those, since I turned them off, cause it was conflicting with my existing wireless router/firewall.

It's an SpeedStream 5200 E240

Would that be 100 euros or US dollars?

do you have a fixed ip or dynamic?

You got to watch out for some routers like the ar240e by telesyn, which i have, probelm is that you specify a static ip on the red interface and it wont update that red interface ip if you have a dynamicly assign ip.

I just read it all and Boss I've chosen the NetGear DG834. Looks lovely and the firewall is good enough for me smile.gif

It's 105 Euro's here...

I've got a Draytek router right now, it's the 2200USB, but I'm losing around 30KB/s with the USB and Router combo. So this should speed things up big time. Also it doesn't have UPnP support, which does limit me with some things. I hate it when I'm limited by hardware. This DG834 should do the trick smile.gif.

I'll get it when the bank gives me a go wink.gif

Thanks for all the replies peeps!! Much appreciated!
