There are a lot of sites that have this service pack now. As a precaution you might want to make sure the MD5 (checksum verifier) matches.....just in case there's a rogue variant around.
From neowin.net: "WinXP SP2 Build 2180 Final. Please ensure you check this file with an MD5 checksum verifier to ensure it's authenticity. The MD5 you should get for the exe is:
59a98f181fe383907e520a391d75b5a7
I verified the download from M$ to have the same MD5 as I got the other day from a different download site:
59a98f181fe383907e520a391d75b5a7
You can find the MD5 for Win32 program (zip file is only 56K) at
hxxp://digestit.kennethballard.com/download.html
After you install it, you right click on the file name to get the checksum confirmation (it shows up as "Hash File" on the right click menu).

Thanks for the links guys,
Since this is now an official freely available download from M$, I'm going to move this one to the news section.

Thank you.
Now SP2 is available at M$ home.
I just downloaded from artzelda link and
check MD5-59a98f181fe383907e520a391d75b5a7.
It is easy to use MD5 for Win32.
Install it and then right mouse button click SP2 file.

If this is the final realease of SP2 I'm not impressed! Microsoft broke the system tray's ability to hide inactive icons, the built in Pop-Up blocker can't be completely disabled and interferes with 3rd party Pop-Up blockers like Pop-Up Cop, which is superior to anything produced by Microsoft.

Hmm, can't say I've ever liked that "feature" anyways. Everything else seems to work just fine for me. I don't use IE either so no worries about a pop-up blocker. Everything else works just frelling fine.

Running SP2 here and having no problems whatsoever with it.
My inactive icons/system tray are working fine, I turned off the pop-up blocker no probs, but I use ad-muncher for that anyway.
All in all, I would say I was very pleased with it.

Ive had that problem with the original XP so I dont think its the SP2. You just gota play around with it a bit "disable, enable, disable, reboot, enable"

I figured out how to fix the system tray problem, but I found a couple of apps that don't work with SP2.
1. MSGTAG is a utility that plugs into your email client and tags all your messages so you get notifications when your email is opened by the recipient. It can't connect to the SMTP server after installing SP2.
2. mIRC, keep getting " Unable to connect to server (Software caused connection abort)" on every server I try to connect to.

That just sounds like the default settings for the updated Firewall are blocking them.... Look into the firewall settings and adjust to suit.

I heard that SP2 will make windows update unusable if using a corp key that is not listed with them.

That's a negatory. I'm using a corp key and updates work fine. Everything runs like a charm.

I finally upgraded, but I'm thinking of reformating my drive, since my boot time increased considerably (lots more of HD activity too). I might upgrade ZA too, since v.4.5 takes lots of time to startup.

I just intergrated mine & did a clean install. On the other computer though I just updated it & did a good degfrag and it boots up fast. I have no complaints about this SP except for the "security center". That was so annoying with its popups about AV and firewall: I hate that crap

Use the links under "Manage security settings for:" to turn off the monitoring and put an end to the annoyance you describe.

Yeah I will steer clear of this bloated mess for now.
Heck I am still running XP Pro with no SP and likeing, a coupel of the KB's(like the RPC) one and thats it pretty much, the less bloated the better.
Plus I have seen it kill alot of systems, BSOD and all kinds of things, to the point where it has killed RAID arrays, wireless(even though it has the new wireless features) and all kinds of stuff, but alot of these I think is cause these people had spyware, viruses and all kinds of crap on the machine.
You want to make sure when installing from the network installer that anti-virus sw is disabled and firewall and startup is clean and and the machine has ben scanned and cleaned previous too, seems to help.

In the control panel you will see Wireless, Security Center adn Windows Firewall now. Yeeh haw.
