I'm using IE6 but my puter won't load some perfectly legitimate sites like adobe.com. Please don't tell me to change my browser coz for some reason or the other i'm attached to IE. If you have anyother solution glad to hear it.

Are you running a firewall?

I would check your firewall settings and also the privacy settings within IE. IF IE settings are set too high you will be blocked from some sites.
Good luck!

My privacy settings in IE are normal and the firewall settings are ok. Still thanks for trying to help, Parli.

in windows: click "start", "run", type in "ping <sitename>" ie, ping www.adobe.com
example output:
CODE |
ping www.adobe.com
Pinging www.wip3.adobe.com [192.150.18.61] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.150.18.61: bytes=32 time=78ms TTL=240 Reply from 192.150.18.61: bytes=32 time=77ms TTL=240
ping www.adobe.com
Pinging www.wip3.adobe.com [192.150.14.120] with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out. |
Don't worry about "request timed out"; just elliminating your DNS servers as the source of the problem.
example of failed DNS:
CODE |
ping www.thisshouldntwork.com Ping request could not find host www.thisshouldntwork.com. Please check the name and try again. |

Contact your Internet service provider for updated DNS servers & make sure your firewall is allowing port 53.
*edit* firewall must be ok or nothing would work.

If you're on XP you could try this: Start -> Run -> "ipconfig /flushdns"
This will clear your DNS cache. It might be faulty or incomplete.
