I have a Dell OEM XP Pro cd that came with my Dell computer when I purchased it. I want to make a ISO of it and then add Service Pack 1 to it and then remake the cd. I want to do this because in my Dell computer I have installed a 160gb drive, XP Pro pre-SP1 will not allow me to use the full 160gb partition and I do not want to partition it. I want to install XP Pro fresh OEM onto the drive

I know there was a turorial somewhere once on how to do that, and it is possible right?? So that when I install it from scratch it will automaticly be installing XP Pro with SP1 at that time. Thank you very much. smile.gif

You may as well slipstream SP2 into it. Now I have never done this with an OEM version so there might or might not be problems: there shouldnt be cause all that is going to be different than a regular one is that there will be software & drivers that are specific to Dell. Anyway here is the link

Slipstreaming Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Create Bootable CD

If you need some help just post back here & ill help you.

Yeah thanks, I have all the drivers for the hardware from the Dell site, the latest. So if all goes well it should work, and yeah OEM XP cd's from Dell use the m-board BIOS to retreive the ID for the cd key all that. biggrin.gif

Thanks a bunch.

Oh and SP2, nah not for me way to bulky and touchy with certain applications, do not need that kind of security. And such a loss in resources.

OK it worked, but SP1 and or maybe the Dell OEM cd worked different.

I did it exactly like it said to, but the SP1 extracted itself to a folder and that was it, it never began the install. so I "cd" (changed directories) to the "update" folder located in the sp1 folder it extracted to. I then used "update -s:C:\xp-cd" and it slipstreamed without any issues and the rest was the same.
Update was the name of the file in the update folder that installs the SP1.

Thanks it helped me to get it to work. biggrin.gif
