Well, i've been working my arse off in the studio, getting my career into more a 'pays-the-bills' area, and came across one very absurd fact: Australia does not support creative people.

Sure, we have big budgets for large companies, but the freelance creatives and smaller studios get almost zero 'airtime'.

To counteract this, I am releasing a monthly magazine featuring local creative individuals and companies, in a hope to expand the awareness of our communities to the outstanding talent we have available in this country.

What does this have to do with a website?

Well, initially we are releasing some small, 'prelaunch' issues online, to entice the general public and create awareness.

This is still in testing phase, and not ready for public release till this weekend, but if anyone is interested or would like to take a look and comment, please jump over to:

That is beautiful!

Bm you have outdone yourself and this is only the beginning.

/me bows before master

heh heh heh

thanks mate, glad you like.

This is just the beginning, and very small. but we have some very cool additions in the coming months...
enigma
Excellent Stuff. That is VERY impressive.

I've found that individuals and small businesses, no matter how much talent or potential they may have, have to do a LOT of work in Australia to get noticed. That said though, some of the artists I know here in Melb are doing very well and they had basically started from scratch.

I love what you're doing, Muppet. Keep it up.
Blue_Muppet
thanks mate, glad you like.

Yeah, i have found the same thing, and good work goes a long way once you get to that level of exposure.

perhaps you could hit me up with some names? If they are established, maybe we could get them to provide industry tips etc?

Nice one wink.gif

A friend and myself have been scoping launching a like-intentioned magazine geared at students/youth in design, so it sounds like possible collaboration potential down the line.
Blue_Muppet
thanks mate!

good to hear your keen for the area, more exposure is a good thing.

As for down the line, absolutely. Let me know just email me at:

mpx@melbournepixel.com

might even get you and your site/work into an upcoming issue if your interested?

have you moved into Prahran? I'm just in Malvern...
Oli-G
Hey, sure! Sounds great, I should probably get a new site with new work up though, that was kinda a night-before-it-was-due job wink.gif

Not in Prahran just yet, but still on the lookout. Anything would be better than 2-3 hour round trips in to work/uni though biggrin.gif

You work at any studios in the area?
spidermanx
Right on bro, good to see your getting back to work!

looks f*ckin' amazing!! smile.gif
Blue_Muppet
thanks spider

Oli, i work in a studio out in Moorabbin, and have my own little studio here in my apartment in Malvern. am moving out later this year though to find more space.
Oli-G
Excellent. I tutored a few students in multimedia down at Moorabbin last year.

Looking forward to my own little studio setup too, circa 2007 with any luck.
Blue_Muppet
hmmm, i dunno much about the suburb or schools out there mate. I just hit the studio out ther (near the Sandbelt Pub) at about 7:30am, and its flat out till after 8pm Mon - Fri.

makes my other work hard, as my own studio is run entriely after-hours...

then again, i dont get to work with clients like Motorola, Gillette, Duracell, Oral B, Creswick, etc etc with my own studio. Although, i have picked up a little bit of work through Village Roadshow, which im hoping will put my studio on the map.

That, and Melbourne Pixel smile.gif

good luck on the setup mate, let me know when you do, we should hook up, even if only for an art collaboration...self-promotional style... biggrin.gif
Blue_Muppet
yo, by the way, if you want to have some self-promotion in an upcoming issue, just email me at:

Oli-G
No probs, thanks mate smile.gif I'll see how the next few uni/client projects pan out, and get back to ya about that in a couple of months I think. But if you're stuck for content in the meantime (which I don't imagine you will be) i'd be more than happy to throw in my 2 cents.

Gotta love the long studio hours eh? Sounds like everything's cruisin along excellent.

I'm totally up for any collabs or related work down the line.

I take it you're familiar with Aus InFront? Great design/networking community.
Blue_Muppet
awesome, yeah, we are pretty covered for the next 6 issues or so, but in future will be good.

ya, long hours seem to be the required amount these days smile.gif

yep, Aus InFront are great, although they need some 'pick-me-up' at the moment...
