Back-up programs, they say everything works like a charm. Well let me say, words don't really mean Sh*t. Iomega performs a perfect 0% Well It worked when I bought it. Now Sh*t. What would you reccommend?

What sort of backups you talking about Defcon???

For full drive backups I use Norton Ghost. Other options are Drive Image or Acronis True Image. No probs with any of them, but i keep ending back at Ghost 'cause it's just so simple.

Accounting Software. The data changes minute by minute, so something reliable to keep up with this ever changing info. I back up to 2gig Jaz drive. Has very very important data. Server has mirrored drives, but I feel (or did) much safer with this external back up. Any thoughts?

I use a freeware program for daily server backups over a LAN: TaskZip but it sounds like you want something more frequent than daily.

It does not sound like you want to image an entire partition or drive but for the benefit of those who might:

Norton Ghost gave me fits and has a limited list of CDR's it supports. After failing at getting it to write to the CDR, I then tried imaging one partition and writing it to a seperate one. I never did get it to work well.

I have used PowerQuest DriveImage (it's Symantec now) for years. It always worked well in DOS mode (from boot disks) for me. I had mixed results running it from Windows though.

I used Acronis True Image once with no problems. All the Acronis products have nice interfaces and were less expensive than the comparable PowerQuest (now Symantec) products the last time I looked.

although i pretty sure it just automates windows in built stuff 12ghosts backup is pretty good for this - completely flexible and you can backup stuff every time something changes to a separate HD, jazz drive, off site server etc...

I use AcrServe, Veritas & TapeWare on a dialy basis. For your use, it seems like TapeWare would be perfect.

Basically 2 types of backups .. Image and files ...

I use Power Quest Drive Image scheduled to make an image every month .. I also use a program called 'Beyond Compare' which has the capability to sync folders .. I have this scheduled daily ... This can be scheduled depending on your needs .. I like both .. Saved my bacon many times .. too many ;-)

Drive Image has pulled my butt out of the fire many times in the past few years.

Try V2i Protector by PowerQuest, there's a server version and desktop version. You can schedule live backups that write the image file to a directory on the same drive being imaged or to another drive and you can burn the image file to a CD or DVD at your convenience. It also allows you to restore individual files from within the image. It's the best disaster recovery software I've ever used.

Why not just write the data to a CD and useit. Cd's are relatiely cheap, easy to store and are throw away when you don't need them any more. They also can hold a significant amount of data. This seems like the easiest and least expensive way to go with no additional software needed and the possible complications that can result with the installation and use of new software.
