Per the WARN Act (governing plant closings) all the employees of TechTV have been given 60 days notice. The San Francisco operation will be shuttered by July. 100 of the existing jobs will be posted for those willing to relocate to LA.
Outgoing COO, Joe Gillespie will say good-bye to the troops tomorrow. Incoming CEO Charles Hirschorn will say hello (and good-bye) on Monday.
No word on which shows G4 will keep or which hosts will be kept on. |
I personally hate Comcast. Unfortunatly, where I live I'm stuck with them as a ISP - but I refuse to give them any more of my money - I've been a loyal DirecTV subscriber for years. You may not like TechTV, but it's head-and-shoulders better than Comcast's G4 channel.
If you'd like to tell Comcast how you feel about this deal, there is an on-line petition:

it's sad, although the channel has gone downhill for a while now, with so many taped shows (robot wars, etc.)

That really sucks. I really did enjoy that channel. I do have to agree with Pimp however, it is not as great as it used to be... a lot of does indeed seem recycled. I'll definately miss some of the interesting stuff they have on there though. I heard G4 blows and I don't even get that channel, so I'm out of luck.

From what I've been able to gather, the new channel is called G4TechTV. All programming will come out of the G4 studio in Los Angeles and the San Francisco TechTV studio will be closed. Some of the on-air talent from TechTV will be moving to LA - Leo Laport I guess is not one of them. And I guess Patrick Norton has not indicated if he's moving to LA or not.
But it appears most of the popular shows will remain (for the most part) intact.
