More coming from the Borg from over at neowin.net:
"Microsoft Corp...will begin selling portable music players for as much as 80 percent less than Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod. The Microsoft-branded devices will "look and feel" as good as the iPod for as little as $50, said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of MSN at Microsoft Corp., at the Goldman Sachs fifth annual Internet Conference in Las Vegas. The iPod sells for $249 to $499. Microsoft, based in Redmond, Wash., will release a number of music players when it launches its online music service later this year, giving customers more choices than Apple, Mehdi said."

The attempts at monopolization continue...
All well, hopefully the player will be decent and actually worth more than it's $50 pricetag. I haven't had the chance to pick myself an MP3 player up yet.

I think thats the key, it will "look and feel" like and apple, it will have bugs and errors and crash every ten minutes like windows.
ah... microsoft got to love em, continuing the tradition of making money by stealling apple's ideas.

Other than the MS bluetooth keyboard & mouse package, every other piece of hardware made by MS have been awesome, quality wise. This should be good.

Well, an update: It looks like the story wasn't true (about Microsoft anyway). Others are apparently ready to build them though...and the price is questionable, too. What reporting...

Even if M$ released their own player - can you say WMA? That's enough to keep me away.

Ahh I would be all for Microsoft doing one, I would definetly pay $50 for one of theres, if they did one. Typical Apple crap, they try to corner the market and then sell it for 50,000% X cost, allow no one to make anything that resembles theres and then slowly watch the prices of there comp's stuff go down and the tech go up while they stay in the dark ages.
Where as at least when Microsoft corners a market then sell it for 1000% X cost(I know this is not a acurate amount, but anyway)
Oh and Mac's or Apples machines or devices not crashing...umm nope, I found that every Mac I have ever worked on crashed at least 10 times for every one time a Windows based PC would.

I can confirm what ur saying 'bout apple's Boxcrash. I've managed to crash the recording studio's G4 numerous times, as well as my sister's PowerBooks. I think the key differentiator is that they crash gracefully. I like the unix-flavoured os too. Otherwise, still a PC man.

Im a UNIX man, so OS X is fine as far as im concerned
Il still prolly PREFER the iPod if MS made an MP3 player, but id just go for the pricing.

I agree with Saint. Not too fond of their software, even though i use so damn much of it, but their hardware is very nice. use both a microsoft keyboard and mouse, and both have been flawless for 4 years. But since the story was fake....
