well i recently reformatted , and i gotgot to back up my codec. cuz i know they are a pain to llook for, butt, i was able to get divx and xvid, but i know im still missing one more, cuz my friend sent me a video, and its all in krazy colors, so iknow im missing a codec or something, but its a .wmv any suggestions ? ?

look for a site called k-lite codecs

http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/

they have a pack of divx, xvid, mp3, mp2, etc etc,

You can also use Gspot to find out what codec you need. Here is link:

Sometimes those weird movie files are AVI's

nope gpot didnt work, well what it told me was that my file was a .asf which was unsupported by gspot, so i need some kind of .asf codec

.asf is built into windows. It's native to Media Player 6 and higher.

Also, don't get the k-lite codec pack - it will ruin your registry. Get the Kristal or Gordian Knot Codec Pack. Both install everything in the correct order and don't mess up your registry.

ok guys thanks for ur help well since one of u pointed out that it was mainly a WM problem so i check out some some , and chage a setting upder Tools --> Options ---then Performance Tab then changed video accleration from full to NONE, and that did the trick , just in case u guys ever reformat and run into this
