look for a site called k-lite codecs

http://www.k-litecodecpack.com/

they have a pack of divx, xvid, mp3, mp2, etc etc,

You can also use Gspot to find out what codec you need. Here is link:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/GSpot.htm

Sometimes those weird movie files are AVI's

nope gpot didnt work, well what it told me was that my file was a .asf which was unsupported by gspot, so i need some kind of .asf codec
Audiyoda
.asf is built into windows. It's native to Media Player 6 and higher.

Also, don't get the k-lite codec pack - it will ruin your registry. Get the Kristal or Gordian Knot Codec Pack. Both install everything in the correct order and don't mess up your registry.
